Condensate drain lines should not be connected to the sewage drainage system under any circumstances unless the furnace is a high efficiency furnace which is exceptable because it is a continious flow trap and does not go dry in the heat season. Condensation from air conditioning coils contains bacteria that can form slime and clog the condensate pan drain tube. This is the condensate drain which plays an important role in removing condensation produced by your air conditioner s evaporator coil. Ultimately your condensate line is responsible for removing the condensation that s produced by the evaporator coil draining it from the air handler to the outside of your house. If the line isn t properly cleaned algae and mold can grow inside and clog the drain causing elevated humidity musty odors and water damage inside your home.

This will kill any algae mold or mildew that has formed in the pipe. However some drain lines may be copper. The condensate line instructions start on page 18 in the installation manual the condensate trap is supplied with the furnace and factory installed. When the drip pan becomes full or clogged or the condensate line is clogged water can spill over the drip pan s edges onto the floor surrounding the unit.

If the condensate drain line is clogged you will need to use a wet dry vacuum or a special pump to unclog the line. The condensate drain line connected to your ac unit plays a vital role in the effective operation of your entire system. We basically have two types of a coil designs postive pressure and negative pressure. Conduct a visual inspection of the entire drain line indoors and out to make sure it is properly draining outdoors.

The drain line should be located near the outside unit leading from your ac unit s indoor evaporator coil commonly located inside your home. Inspect the condensate drain line usually 3 4 white pvc pipe for any cracks or damage. Find the pvc cleanout tee small vertical section of the pipe and unscrew the cap. The drain is typically a small pvc pipe.
